Welcome to Summerville

We are proud of our vibrant, diverse and friendly school where children enjoy the exciting range of opportunities and make excellent progress. We are strongly committed to developing all children academically, emotionally and socially. Our expectations are high, both in learning and behaviour.

I am passionate about enabling all children in our local communities to have the very best possible educational opportunities. I have extremely high expectations of all the children, both in terms of their academic achievement and their social and emotional development.

The curriculum we provide at Summerville is tailor made to give all children a thirst for learning, a motivated engagement in school and the best chance of academic success. There is a strong emphasis on developing confidence and skills to be excellent communicators in all situations. The school has a strong sense of community, with nurture and strong relationships at its core.

Emotionally Friendly Settings update

We’re delighted to share that our school will be formally assessed for Emotionally Friendly Setting accreditation in June 2026.

The Emotionally Friendly Schools programme is built on strong research and provides practical strategies that help schools support children’s wellbeing and respond to their mental health needs in a positive, effective way.

For almost two years, we’ve been working hard toward this recognition. During that time, we’ve taken guidance from a range of experts to make sure our school is a safe, caring and nurturing place for every child and member of staff. Our aim is to support emotional wellbeing just as much as academic learning.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made so far. Achieving the Bronze Award will be an exciting milestone — and if successful, we’ll continue our journey by working toward the Silver and then Gold Awards. This ongoing process helps us keep improving Summerville for our whole school community.
